Controlling valley-polarisation in graphene via tailored light pulses

چکیده
Abstract Analogous to charge and spin, electrons in solids endows an additional degree of freedom: the valley pseudospin. Two-dimensional hexagonal materials such as graphene exhibit two valleys, labelled K ?. These valleys have potential realise logical operations two-dimensional materials. Obtaining desired control over polarisation between is a prerequisite for operations. Recently, it was shown that counter-rotating circularly polarised laser pulses can induce significant valley-polarisation graphene. The main focus present work optimise monolayer by controlling different parameters, wavelength, intensity ratio, frequency ratio sub-cycle phase setup. Moreover, alternate approach, based on single or few-cycle linearly pulse, also explored Our could help experimentalists choose suitable method with optimised parameter space obtain

Controlling the velocity of light pulses.
It is now possible to exercise a high degree of control over the velocity at which light pulses pass through material media. This velocity, known as the group velocity, can be made to be very different from the speed of light in a vacuum c. Specifically, the group velocity of light can be made much smaller than c, greater than c, or even negative. We present a survey of methods for establishing...

Laser pulses with picosecond and femtosecond durations are now indispensable tools in many scientific disciplines. These ultrashort pulses provide unique temporal resolutions for investigations of phenomena taking place in comparable time ranges. In addition, optical energies squeezed into such short time windows yield extremely high peak powers and intensities, paving the way to generate unpre...

Spatial structuring of the intensity, phase and polarisation of light is useful in a wide variety of modern applications, from microscopy to optical communications. This shaping is most commonly achieved using liquid crystal spatial light modulators (LC-SLMs). However, the inherent chromatic dispersion of LC-SLMs when used as diffractive elements presents a challenge to the extension of such te...
متن کاملControl of ionization processes in high band gap materials via tailored femtosecond pulses.
Control of two basic ionization processes in dielectrics i.e. photo ionization and electron-electron impact ionization on intrinsic time and intensity scales is investigated experimentally and theoretically. Temporally asymmetric femtosecond pulses of identical fluence, spectrum and pulse duration result in different final free electron densities. We found that an asymmetric pulse and its time ...
متن کاملPhoton polarisation in light-by-light scattering: finite size effects
We derive a simple expression for the photon helicity and polarisation-flip probabilities in arbitrary background fields, in the low energy regime. Taking the background to model a focused laser beam, we study the impact of pulse shape and collision geometry on the probabilities and on ellipticity signals of vacuum birefringence. We find that models which do not account for pulse duration can o...
